Rotary Shaft Seal 125x140x13 NBR TC GRN®

Rotary Shaft Seal 125x140x13 NBR TC GRN® is a double-lip radial shaft seal manufactured from NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber). It has dimensions of 125x140x13 mm and a TC design with a spring-loaded primary sealing lip and an additional dust lip. The relatively small difference between the 125 mm shaft diameter and 140 mm outside diameter makes accurate dimensional identification particularly important.

What does 125x140x13 mm mean?

The designation 125x140x13 mm specifies the three basic installation dimensions of the oil seal:

125 mm - nominal shaft diameter.

140 mm - nominal housing bore diameter.

13 mm - nominal seal width.

When selecting a replacement, all three dimensions should be verified. In this case, the difference between the shaft diameter and outside diameter is only 15 mm, so the seal should not be identified using approximate measurements.

TC - double-lip oil seal design

The TC profile is a double-lip rotary shaft seal design.

Its construction includes:

  • primary sealing lip

  • garter spring supporting the primary sealing lip

  • additional dust lip

  • rubber-covered outside diameter

  • internal reinforcement

The primary sealing lip operates directly against the rotating shaft and provides the main dynamic sealing function.

The additional secondary lip acts as a dust lip, helping to reduce the ingress of dust, dirt and other external contaminants into the primary sealing area.

NBR - Nitrile Butadiene Rubber

The seal is manufactured from NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber).

NBR is one of the most commonly used elastomers for conventional rotary shaft seals. It provides good resistance to many mineral oils and greases together with good mechanical and wear properties.

Material suitability should always be evaluated according to the specific medium, operating temperature, shaft surface speed and other operating conditions.

How does the 125x140x13 TC oil seal work?

During operation, the primary sealing lip runs against the rotating shaft surface. The garter spring helps maintain appropriate radial contact between the sealing lip and the shaft.

The additional dust lip forms a secondary barrier on the external side and helps protect the primary sealing area against contamination.

The rubber-covered outside diameter provides static sealing between the oil seal and housing bore.

SC vs TC - what is the difference?

The main difference is the sealing lip configuration.

SC - single-lip rotary shaft seal with one spring-loaded primary sealing lip and no additional dust lip.

TC - double-lip rotary shaft seal with a spring-loaded primary sealing lip and an additional secondary dust lip.

SC and TC seals should therefore not automatically be considered interchangeable even when their nominal dimensions are identical.

Seal designation systems may vary between manufacturers, so the actual construction, dimensions and material should always be checked when selecting an equivalent.

Selecting a 125x140x13 TC oil seal

Before purchasing or selecting a replacement, verify:

  • shaft diameter: 125 mm

  • housing bore diameter: 140 mm

  • seal width: 13 mm

  • elastomer: NBR

  • TC design

  • double-lip construction

  • sealed medium

  • operating temperature

  • shaft surface speed

  • condition of the shaft sealing surface

  • lubrication conditions

  • required protection against external contamination

Matching the shaft diameter alone is not sufficient. The complete 125x140x13 mm dimensions and seal construction must correspond to the requirements of the assembly.

Installation

Before installation, thoroughly clean the shaft and housing bore.

The shaft surface in contact with the primary sealing lip should be free from burrs, sharp edges, corrosion, scratches and other defects that could damage the elastomer.

During installation:

  • protect the sealing lip from sharp edges

  • prevent the lip from folding or twisting

  • press the seal evenly into the housing

  • avoid tilting the seal

  • ensure the correct installation direction

The primary sealing lip should normally face the medium being retained.

GRN® Rotary Shaft Seals

GRN® rotary shaft seals have been part of the TG Ersatzteile Polska product range since 2007. The range includes radial shaft seals in numerous dimensions, elastomer materials and construction variants, including single-lip and double-lip designs.

FAQ - Rotary Shaft Seal 125x140x13 NBR TC GRN®

What are the dimensions of the GRN® 125x140x13 oil seal?

The nominal shaft diameter is 125 mm, the housing bore diameter is 140 mm, and the seal width is 13 mm. The complete dimensions are 125x140x13 mm.

What material is this oil seal made from?

The sealing element is manufactured from NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber).

Is TC a double-lip oil seal?

Yes. The TC design features a primary sealing lip and an additional secondary dust lip.

Does the TC oil seal have a garter spring?

Yes. The primary sealing lip is supported by a garter spring.

What is the purpose of the second lip?

The additional dust lip helps reduce the ingress of dust, dirt and other external contaminants into the primary sealing area.

What is the difference between SC and TC oil seals?

SC is a single-lip design without an additional dust lip. TC is a double-lip design incorporating an additional secondary dust lip.

Is NBR suitable for oil?

NBR provides good resistance to many mineral oils and greases. Compatibility should always be checked for the specific medium and actual operating conditions.

Can any 125x140x13 oil seal replace this GRN® seal?

No. In addition to dimensions, the NBR material, TC profile, sealing lip arrangement and actual operating requirements should be verified.
